The idea you guys are missing is that these different planes represent stages of a very fast rate of technical development. You can't really compare the planes that flew in the 30's with the ones that hit production in 1944-45.
Also the Mosquito wasn't technically a fighter but I think it definitely deserves inclusion.

Don't underestimate the British.. They were 1st in many, many military inventions and innovations.. The aircraft carrier.. RADAR.. The Tank.. Also during WWII their intelligence services and code breaking ran the Germans in circles.
They weren't perfect, far from it..They made plenty of mistakes too.. But they were every bit as good and clever as the Germans.. Yeah the Germans had their share of inventions and forward thinking military tactics, but so did the Brits.. The 'Blitzkrieg' was actually mostly a British idea.. Unfortunately for the Brits their higher ups ignore it.
