Affluenza kid on the run

Postby fstarcstar » Thu Dec 17, 2015 4:36 pm

Police have been ordered to detain Ethan Couch, a North Texas teen whose lawyers attributed his deadly drunken driving crash to "affluenza," because his parole officer has been unable to reach him or his mother, his attorneys said.

On Thursday afternoon, Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson said U.S. Marshal and the FBI have officially joined the search to find Couch.

This is the kid who killed 4 people in a car crash and got off with 10 years probation for "affluenza" because his parents never taught him right from wrong. Well, turns out the boy and his mother are gone and nobody knows where just yet.

Well considering his mother is with him, this actually confirms that he wasn't taught right or wrong.

There may be plenty to blame on the parents, but I wouldn't really say this is part of it. If I had the money, I'd do anything I could to keep my kid out of jail. The state never should have allowed it to be possible.

if my son killed 4 people by being a complete f**k shithead scumbag i'd be a-ok with the state hauling his ass off to jail.

I'd say a large chunk of it rests with the parents, although I certainly agree that shouldn't provide any sort of excuse... at least not so long as it doesn't work equally as well for poor kids from shit homes.

As for what I'd do as a parent, it would depend on what my kid did. Considering I'm the type of guy who would allow my kid to drink, and would also be glad to DD for him and his friends, if my kid were to kill four people while drunk driving, I'd personally escort him to jail myself.

I'm sorry, but deadbeat parent or not, killing 4 people while drunk driving is not something we can say you did on accident or you didn't know any better. 4 people are dead and this shit is sitting on an island somewhere soaking up the sun.

Well, maybe someone in one of the victim's family bided their time until vigilante justice could be served.

I'm not excusing him, I'm just saying that once one is a parent, it may shock some people what they would do for their kids. Personally, I'd do a lot of things that would make it unlikely for this to have happened in the first place, but at the end of the day, no I wouldn't let my kid go to jail if I had a choice. It isn't a reforming wonderland, it is a terrible place where they are as likely to become worse criminals as they are to learn anything of worth as a life lesson.

As the not-a-parent of this kid though, I'm fine with him being thrown in the slammer. He deserves it and the state shouldn't allow people to buy their way out of prison.
