Also, the fire sprinkler systems are considered "plumbing". And the freezers (open and closed). And the produce area. Bakery, meat department. Pets.
Yeah a lot of plumbing in those things. Takes a long time to fix, as you've got to rip up stuff to even get to it.
Not saying it was the plumbing, but if it was, then I could see 6 months.

We can rule out unforeseen plumbing issues, because the odds of 5 stores all suddenly developing 6 months worth of unexpected plumbing work at the same time is far fetched. If the work was scheduled, why were employees only given a few hours notice? Store modifications on that scale would be planned months in advance - and city officials in Pico say no permits for work to be carried out gave been sought, nor any kind of notification re plumbing.
