Walmart Closes 5 Stores - Putting 2200 Out of Work

Postby Southern Dad » Fri Apr 17, 2015 2:05 pm

Walmart fired 2,200 to fix the plumbing

Wal-Mart suddenly closed five stores in four states on Monday for alleged plumbing problems. The closures could last up to six months and affect roughly 2,200 workers in Texas, California, Oklahoma, and Florida, CNN Money reports. Wal-Mart employees say they were completely blindsided by the news, having been notified only a couple hours before the stores closed at 7 p.m. Monday.

"Everybody just panicked and started crying," Venanzi Luna, a manager at a store in Pico Rivera, California, told CNN Money.

All workers will receive paid leave for two months. After that, full-time workers could become eligible for severance, according to CNN Money. But part-time workers will be on their own. Local officials and employees have questioned Wal-Mart's reasoning for the closures.
as reported on CNN Money

The Pico Rivera store is the one that the workers have been protesting and demanding higher salaries. Coincidence? Probably not, but Walmart owns the stores. If they wish to close them, I believe they have the right to do so. Just as employees have the right to demand higher wages.

I guess it's temporary for repairs. Tough break for the employees.

What? This has absolutely zero to do with wages, it literally says there is a plumbing issue. No story here

Some are speculating that the repairs are a pretense because Walmart hasn't applied for permits yet but it seems it's been on ongoing issue they've complained of, they're offering severance to full time employees and reopening the store at issue when repairs are done.

I suspect liberals are overreacting and seeing ghosts that aren't there and this is just a ho hum event. Shit happens basically.

If it's plumbing, then no story.

However, if they closed the stores because workers were demanding more wages and/or threatening to unionize . . . way to go corporate execs at Wal Mart!

Yep, they can continue to close stores on their road to prosperity.

Do you believe it is plumbing? No permits for repairs were pulled. How convenient this store gets closed. Six months? They could build the store in six months.

I'm supporting my local Walmart as I post.

They closed 5 stores temporarily in response to ineffective protests at 1 store? Hmmmmm.
