no, i am specifically talking about the flu virus
it's not mandatory and it is far from universally administered so herd immunity is not exactly a factor in how it works
herd immunity is supposed to protect those who cannot receive a vaccine, that is not a difficult concept to understand
consider this, if herd immunity works the way it is advertised then a few individuals not receiving the vaccine will themselves be protected by herd immunity.
this shit is a talking point

Well... Kind of. Herd immunity occurs when you reach a particular threshold of a particular virus. So for just about everything, 3% not taking vaccinations is no problem. But this is exactly why anti-vaccination people are so dangerous. If they can convince 5-10% of the population to stop, then the herd immunity disappears, and new cases skyrocket. We are already seeing this with measles.

no the problem with the resurgence of measles is that people stopped getting their follow up booster shots because they thought it was eradicated.
"anti-vaxxers" are the domestic equivalent of the ISIS bogeyman. a non issue

Herd immunity isn't immunity at all. It is insulation. The idea is that the disease may pop up, but the ability to spread is extremely low as those not immunized are insulated from spread by those that are immunized.
Unfortunately, with measles, they are doing it wrong as they aren't having people keep up with the required shots.
It also doesn't protect pockets of people who aren't immunized and stay in close proximity. It does, however, protect all of the rest of us from those people.
