lol, he didn't even question the massive crimes committed in the name of our foreign policy, facts that are completely uncontroversial in the rest of the world (for example, most Chileans remember 9/11 as the day Salvador Allende was ousted in a US-backed coup that placed a brutal dictator in charge). Obama merely referenced events long since past which no rational person would deny, in order to vaguely allude to the fact that maybe, just maybe, we should engage in self-criticism, the habit that should actually distinguish us from our enemies. God forbid we reject daesh's Manichaean dichotomy, simply substituting West for Good, Islam for Bad.

Then again nuance has never been a strong suit of post-Reagan Republican foreign policy.

You should know your audience. When at the National Prayer Breakfast you probably shouldn't be bashing the Christians reminding them that their religion killed a few folks. Especially not if you want them to like you. Nothing like telling them they are just like the Muslims burning people in cages.
