Yes, they are simultaneously anti-imperialist and the result of an american CIA psyops designed to satisfy imperial and colonialist claims. They're just dumb children being manipulated by vast, incomprehensibly superior puppet masters. The poor, poor dears.

Assad is far from "broken" in any case. He's resisted everything the jihadists can throw at him. And Dharma, because he's an incorrigible moron, insists on forgetting the FSA and the various jihadist militias, including ISIS, are not the same thing. I don't remember anyone insisting we supply the militias so extreme they declared war and attacked the FSA, the "secular" militia that the "Arab Spring" blinded western leaders wanted to support from the start.
Of course he would conflate the two to prove how the west is totally to blame ultimately. What a surprise.

I agree, and I argued the same case at the time. it's why I put "secular" in quotes when describing the FSA. They were obviously trying to ride the coattails of the Arab Spring and courting western support by appealing to their delicate sensibilities ("secular", lol), but it was clear even then that the same thing that happened in Egypt would eventually happen there, should Assad step down peacefully. As fundamentally islamic as the Brotherhood may be though, they're not nearly on the level of ISIS. The hardcore islamist militias only started appearing once it was clear the FSA couldn't stand alone against Assad and the "west" was not going to intervene in their favour. Saying the "west" wanted to fund ISIS (and did so) is disingenuous gobshittery, fit only for people like Dharma.
