The kurdish in Syria are more or less autonomous already as well. If the creation of Kurdistan is proclaimed I would think they want to be a part of it. PKK and kurdish separatists in Turkey though...I don't think Turkey's sudden goodwill towards kurdish separatists will extend to giving away ~20 million people and a huge tract of land with an incredibly profitable pipeline. They are placating them with a series of reforms adressing kurdish grievances. I don't know enough about the history to guess whether it's just a cynical temporary roadblock or a genuine offer, but I hope for both sides it's the latter.

The whole having a legitimate country that can be held accountable works both ways. The kurdish government could very well just dissavow any connection or support to the PKK while it is supported and financed through private means, and officially as well just in a covert manner. It's what Saudi Arabia and Qatar and Pakistan have been doing this entire time with islamist militias, while simultaneously pretending to be "at war" with them.

The reason the Iraqi army in the north disentegrated might have more to do with the constant targetted assassinations, blackmail and threats the leadership were subjected to than sectarian divisions. Along with this came the obligatory propaganda campaign. Directing jihadi inspirational and war propaganda seems like a really up and coming position in the job sector.

I'm a little afraid that in 5-10 years it may come down to an all out war in/with the ME.. A WWII type war, the gloves are off, you're on our side or else.. Where whole countries are bombed and cities destroyed until they say Uncle. And then the countries are occupied for decades, ala Japan and Germany..

I'm not wishing for it, but the ME and their constant war, and constant bloodshed, and killing is beginning to remind me of Germany and how sick Europe was of going to war with Germany every 20-30 years.. Europe, and the world finally said enough, lets bomb the shit out of her, beat Germany into the ground, divide her, occupy her, and lets start over..

I see that as a possibility in the ME in the near future.
