The vast majority of kids want an education. Even when they don't want to be in school or want to work hard for it, they still understand there is a value to being educated. But, kids are kids, and will do stupid things from time to time, like skip school just to see if they can get away with it, or curse out a teacher. However, kids, like adults, need to reap what they sow. Punishments are designed to teach lessons. Lessening punishments ultimately teach the wrong lesson, that there are no real consequences for their actions. That is a HUGE problem in society now. We need to be tougher on our children, not softer.

it never said they wouldn't be punished. it said they wouldn't be suspended any longer.

ahhh. well funding still has nothing to do with that. how many days in a school year is determined, as far as i know, at least at a school district wide level if not a state level. i can't imagine they'd let every school have wildly different policies regarding attendance simply from a logistics standpoint.
