The United Nations wasn't designed to work.
It is the same reason why the League of Nations failed. It is gutless.
Certain countries are granted veto power over the enforcement of international law. Russia, France, the United Kingdom, China and the United States.
It is why the United Nations is worthless. If you are going to try to make international law actually a thing, you need enforcement powers, and you need democracy. That is the only way it would work. It is impossible with three massive and two semi-massive powers holding a monopoly over enforcement.

Without the sec council there is no body like the UN. No large power would have been willing to cede soverignty without such an institution like the sec council.
In the long we will see more even distribution of power. But the sec council was a very, very good idea.

Did you see the vote? Israel, the US, Canada and 4 other also-rans voted against it (American-Samoa, among others).
Pretty stark proof that the US administration (both parties) choose to stick with Israel even when the collective world thinks otherwise. You know, if 51% of people disagree with the other 49%, I don't see much reason for the 49% to reassess their position. When 90% of the world disagrees with 10%, I would imagine that the 10%, if they were smart, would begin asking questions of themselves.
How is this hard to understand? We (the winners of WW2) took land from a very traditional people andd gave it to their eons-old enemies. We did it for the right reasons, but we still did it. And we wonder why there are problems?
