We are becoming a nihilist and hedonist nation with no overarching values or binding virtues other than crass materialism, mindless consumerism, and trendy SJW/progresssive boilerplate. We have nothing really to unify us or bring us together, we're not a nation so much as a collection of individuals living in the same national boundaries. The West is sick and decaying and the only answer we seem to have for it is to continually drink poison and hasten our demise.

This is why all of the criticisms of Trump that "mainstream" Republicans offer up fall on deaf ears. They whine, "oh he's not a real conservative" or "he donated to the Clinton's!" Who cares? People are attracted to strength and will gravitate to a strong leader naturally. (**DISCLAIMER** I am not in anyway comparing Trump to Hitler.) People always claim that Hitler was voted in overwhelmingly and my answer is "of course." Why wouldn't he have been? He was strong and was not afraid to speak his mind. What alternative did other political forces in Germany offer? What alternative are current "mainstream" Republicans offering other than tepid apologies and more weak, spineless mealymouthed P.C. platitudes? All they have done in response to Trump is complain about his tone or offer up more flat taxes that are never going to pass.

The point is in the war of ideas, the war of culture, people are going to gravitate towards the perceived strength. So to win you have to be stronger. When the prevailing attitude of the day is hedonism and nihilism people will rally around a strong leader. Evangelicals' top choice right now is Trump, a man who said he has never asked God for forgiveness, which is definitely a sign of the times. If The Establishment wants to beat Trump they have to stop being so mushy, wishy-washy, and weak.

there's a prophet for that:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Milius

John Frederick Milius (born April 11, 1944) is an American screenwriter, director, and producer of motion pictures. He was one of the writers for the first two Dirty Harry films, received an Academy Award nomination as screenwriter of Apocalypse Now, and wrote and directed The Wind and the Lion, Conan the Barbarian and Red Dawn.

Love his work and that bio is legendary. I'll take John Milius as a prophet and hero any day.

Why did I know this was coming? Well of course--it's the progressives and... the progressives!

he's right ya know....social progressives are scum. they're even murdering dance-clubs:

as an aside I was mulling over what atheist/agnostic Non would aspire to/be like and I settled of John Milius (ergo my earlier reference) anything else would simply not do.

Is he?

Because he says this:

When the prevailing attitude of the day is hedonism and nihilism people will rally around a strong leader.

Nobody's pushed the whole nihlism/do-it-now-if-it-feels-good/crass consumerism/capitalism f*ck-anybody-who's-not-rich-it's-their-fault-they're-losers American ideal more than people who AREN'T progressives, and all the while doing it while they claim to be "Christians" and love Jesus and try and force religion into every orifice imaginable in the country because this is what will "save" us from... them?

LOL.

People who'd rather listen to Sarah Palin than Stephen Hawking because the beauty of wielding your "Judeo/Christian principles" is you literally don't have to have evidence for anything, you just need to say God told you so.

These are the people who have led us into two disastrous wars, who want a third one, who allowed the economy to be raped and the rapists to go free and who have literally bound themselves to a suicide pact when it comes to admitting what's happening to the planet. Just keep doing what we're doing if it feels good--well, for us at least--the very definition of hardcore, hedonistic 60s ultra-liberalism and irresponsibility, all combined with a raging case of normalcy bias and served up under the cover of stinkingly fake religious piety.

Wow thanks for opening my eyes. What we need to do is unleash the drones on them and herd them over the Mexican border where they can join those other disease-infested, raping, non-English speaking animals that are keeping America From Being Great AgainTM, what with their progressivism and America- and Jesus-hate.

Oh don't get me wrong, I have plenty of hate in my heart for neoconservatives. Make no mistake though, they are progressives and they have their ideological roots deep within the left. Take the Bush clan, they believe in plenty of left wing fantasies and support the same open borders, nation-less, culture-less, globalist agenda as any progressive. The difference is merely in semantics.

Does anyone seriously believe that if John McCain, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, etc. was president the past 8 years America would look any different than it does now? Do you really think Romney would have stopped gay marriage from becoming the de facto law of the land? Do you really think Jeb would have stopped the overturn of "Don't ask, Don't tell?" No. They wouldn't have stopped the train to the abyss at all, they would have only pretended to slow it. They would have stomped their feet and paid a lot of lip service to "continuing the fight, this is not over blah, blah, blah" and then just forget about it. Neocons, and establishment Republicans are just leftists who talk about Jesus more and like to bomb the Middle East only slightly more than Democrats.

...the focus on same sex marriage is a bit perplexing...

For neither Obama nor Romney nor El Jeb could/or would've stopped or passed legislation legalizing same sex marriage. As it stands....SCOTUS made that determination for the legislators. As it has had to several times in the past. So the point is moot and the comparison wholly lacking in legitimacy.

You believe that homosexual marriage has made the US less christian?

And the rant about the US becoming atheist is just hyperbole - less than 5% (probably even less than that) self identify as atheist.

Moreover...religion doesn't define the United States of America. Citizens are free to practice whatever religion they wish - free from persecution. That was the intent of the 1st...what defines the US is it's tolerance and acceptance of all religions, not some proscribed affectation meant as a declaration.

You need to tell that to all the Bible-throwers who run the party now my friend. We are, in their minds, a Judeo-Christian nation so that means f*** you, Muslims and whatever other third-tier religions there are and if you're an atheist you're the anti-Christ and must be destroyed.

We are a Christian nation under attack by secular progressives who want us to bake cakes for their gay weddings, which as anybody knows, is the first brick in the road to fascism. That's how Hitler did it.

1. who in the Republican party is advocating the destroying of atheists?

2. they have a point, generally speaking forcing people to accept (as oppose to tolerate) a life-style they disagree with is a form of coercion. it's the other-side of the morality laws that were used against gays at one time.

From whom do you think is Christianity Under Attack? a) the Muslims with their sharia law and b) the secular progressives aka atheists.

Yeahright. And why do they disagree with it again? Oh yeah: because of a 2000+ year-old book written by MEN but yet they claim is the word of God and ain't it funny that when it comes to them ho-mo-sexuals they interpret the Good Book as literally as possible but ignore doing that for the hundreds/thousands of other things that would make their lives ridiculous if they were to interpret those literally, aka, cherry-picking in the extreme.

But LOL at the attempt to classify eliminating discrimination as discrimination. That's some real Ted Cruz shit right there, that is.

Really? You're going to play that game now too? Where an obviously facetious remark is going to be interpreted literally so you can complain about it?

But it is a good question, if you think about it: since Ted Cruz says that America is a Christian nation under attack by "liberal fascists," what do you think his final solution is? We're just going to ignore the fascists victimizing Christians, is that what you and Ted are saying? What do you think he's suggesting when he labels people that way? Or are you really going to play dumb? What do we typically do to America's enemies, like Al Qaeda? Are you saying that in labeling them that way, we're not calling for violent action to be taken against them? Is that really what you're saying? Is that what you're telling me? :ymdaydream:

Coercion, LOL. This just gets better.
