Is America a Christian Nation?

Gay marriage did not "become constitutional". Banning it is unconstitutional, and has been since the 14th amendment was passed. The court just took their time to rule on it.

The problem with calling it a Christian nation, is the wealth of viewpoints that can be ascribed to Christianity. Any self-serving code of ethics can pretty much be justified as being Christian, which is kind of a necessary outcome of how elastic and vague interpretations of the bible can be. Besides, ascribing an entire culture and set of ethics for a nation to a code of viewpoints that were written down in iron-age Palestine seems like an issue, anyway.

IMO, the internet and increasingly connectivity between countries will just continue driving people away from self-identifying as Christian in the U.S. and moving towards something less regionalistic like "spiritual but not religious".

The reason people are moving away from Christianity is that they see better alternatives for themselves.

There are a lot of things that distract you away from God. Religion could be one of those things.

Right now Christians are just repackaged Pharisees.

America is an experimental nation. The experiment is ongoing. My opinion is the experiment needs a bigger injection of common sense.

I have - as someone brought up Christian - never understood how on earth anyone could ever justify calling the US 'Christian'. It worships money and success, and no-one there seems ever to read the New Testament. At best, the people there seem very-ill-instructed Jews.
