I agree with you, so don't take my points as "nah nah, the other side does it too". The root isn't really some complex hypocrisy, it is that politicians at the national level are predominately soulless shells of human existence.

Put people in a position in which they can express themselves with no real impact or actual chance at getting things done a particular way, and they'll wax ideological. Put them in a position where they can actually unilaterally make policy, and you pretty well get identical results regardless of ideology. It is because the differences between these guys is superficial and exhibits only in those places where they can safely throw around what their constituents want to hear, without any actual chance of the consequences of seeing the horrible results of their stupid ideas.

I don't think the reason for this is some grand conspiracy, but more simply, that our political system consistently elevates the same type of dick-bag that doesn't give a crap about actually changing things, but just wants to get their face in a museum, their name on a school, and as much money and power as they can accumulate.

Good post.

The biggest difference I've noticed in recent years is that the Democrats at least seem somewhat pragmatic. All the f**k in Iraq and Afghanistan were brought up by the Dems. Even the idiots who supported Iraq at least understood that how it was being waged was really awful and stupid.

I guess I just feel as if even though the foreign policy of both parties is pretty similar and crazy, the Dems are more competent.

You are trapped in a room with two other people. Leaving the room requires the cooperation of two people. There are two other people in the room with you and you have a knife.

One person says he's going to kill you because you have little devils in your head.
The other person says he's going to kill you because it will ingratiate him to the guy who thinks you have devils in your head and together they can escape the room.

To whom do you give the knife?

There is no competency, only a rational facade on insanity that produces the same undesired result.

Thoughts?

I'm guessing it's due to their (well-documented) addiction to alcohol. What other reason would there be, for the opinions expressed by Red Staters....who TOO-often sound like some drunken-loudmouth in a neighborhood-bar??

Mr.Bill wrote:Actually it comes down to right NOW the Dems are less dangerous. Both parties suck, and are hypocritical..

But with what the GOP is going through right now, they are a very, very dangerous bunch. With them ideology is all important....

....IF you consider the rantings, of their spokesman (Porky Limbaugh), to be ideology-based.

I'm guessing he spent MOST of his young-life getting smacked-around (by the other neighborhood-kids) for continually telling everyone "I TOLD you so! I TOLD you so!". I can't help, but think, his sexual-preferences are (also) a direct-result of being smacked-around (primarily) by all the little-girls in his neighborhood.

Is it just me, or does the poster above add absolutely nothing to the conservation.

Back on topic, I see little to no difference between the two parties when it comes to foreign policy. Bush's incompet stewardship of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, pale in comparison to democrat war mongering from 1918 thru 1969. Then again, Sixty odd years of democratic war mongering, doesn't make Bush's war mongering any.less offensive.

it's because when it comes to foreign policy there isn't really a partisan divide. once either party enters power they pretty much have to follow 'american' foreign policy, which is why our foreign policy has remained the same for 70 years.

good point.

it's very telling that after the Cold War ended there wasn't a major shift in our foreign policy.

Too a certain point, I agree with both of your points

Even after the fall of the Soviet Union, there was a ever creeping NATO presence towards Russia.

There was still Western powers doing the Oil Shieks dirty work in the middle east.

,The only change that I have seen is the US-China dynamic.

A Republican President must be stripped of war making powers, and only allowed to act after a declaration from Congress.

Thoughts?
Could you explain thr reasoning behind your rather ummm...off-the-wall opinion?

The Republican Party hasn't put forward a person who can be trusted with the US military since George Bush Sr., and have spent eight years criticizing probably one of the most adept FP presidents in recent history.

In case you haven't figured it out, I'm not actually being serious. Well, I am about how awful the GOP is at FP, but not about banning them.
