Facebook is a great platform for my business; we've seen dramatic upswings in online sales as well as in-store visits since I developed a marketing strategy for it.
The trick, IMO, is to integrate all of your marketing and offer something valuable for participating on your social media pages. For instance, I ran a contest to get people to get their friends to like our page - we gained 300 likes in a couple days, and it cost us exactly $5.45 (the cost to make one of our small pizzas). Once that was over, I bought $20 worth of FB ads, focused it exclusively on friends of friends, and we picked up another 400 likes, except these people were entirely unaware of our store, and nearly two dozen of them came for a visit. Four or five are regular customers now. All for $25.

what you don't know is that those costumers were just me in different disguises.
i didn't want you to feel like you had failed.

I'm probably slightly younger than the average person on this site; starting in middle school I grew up with Xanga, Myspace, and Facebook. When I first registered on the original Political Crossfire as Prefx I devoted a lot of my time to social networking just to pass the time. I would say that it's shocking to see how self-absorbed social networking has made kiddos. I teach at my old high school, and Twitter is disastrous media, not social. People either don't know how to limit their exposure or try to polish their lives into a whirlwind of fun. It's a search for the high, and mistakes are seen as editable.
'Selfies' used to be frowned upon. Now I see kids posting pictures of themselves every hour?
I reflected on this last year and have decided to use social media to benefit me instead of being a time-filler. I'm reaching out for new opportunities and trying to establish a profitable tutoring business so that I can get paid the same but work twice as less. I like to go out a few times a week so I check up on new locations, clubs, bars, and shows. In terms of wasting my time trying to create that stylish status update or comment retort - eh. I save it for when the opportunity arises.

Social networking is bad for people and provides social convenience the same way McDonalds provides convenient nutrition. They are both bad for us, yet we all use them time to time.
I use social networking and I feel like I use it a bit too much. I justify to keeping my facebook to connect with friends overseas who I communicate with over fb messenger.
I hate the facade people like Zuckerberg put on like they are saving the world and curing hunger when they create some successful product that does little to enrich human life. Its a phone or website that is a go to for bored people, you din't cure cancer.
