the US got cosmically lucky at midway though. pacific would have been a whole different beast had it gone the way it should have.

Even if the Japs won at Midway it would have only delayed the inevitable. When they hit Pearl Harbor they left the fuel depots, sub pens and drydocks intact and the US had a large fleet in the Atlantic which they could have just repositioned if the Pacific theatre got any worse.

inevitable they would lose the war? yeah obviously. would the US have been able to just island hop like they owned the pacific? not a chance.

We weren't lucky at Midway, we were reading their mail..
And a major flaw with the Japanese Navy was their plans of attack were usually complicated as hell. Midway was a perfect example or that.
If you drew it up on a blackboard it would look like a football play where this guy goes here, and that guy goes there, and this guy over there goes here.. And then there would probably be a spot where all the guys ran into each other.. It was almost comical.
I mean seriously though their Naval plans were waaay too complicated.
