TBH i was thinking pretty early in the age of chivalry when i said that. i usually don't think much of the late period when i think of armored knights and battles.

Just to point it out, there's putting an edge on a sword and sharpening a sword. Most heavy swords just need and edge. This is not because they are being used to bludgeon, it is because the weight makes them chop through stuff very well without being sharpened. Having a razor sharp edge on a sword doesn't do much on these swords as it really only helps when drawing the blade across something.
