Short of the nice tidy treaty at the end of the article, I think whoever holds the midwest is going to win the long-game. Food, nukes, and less population to carry through the extremely lean times that would occur if our food distribution network were to be disrupted for a lengthy period of time.

Texas would then sweep north into Canada and seize their coal sands and farms.

Flyover states? How about Flyover Empire®.

Bad choice Texas. Why would you want to make enemies with 30,000,000 people with the capacity, wealth and technology required to crush you? Particularly considering we are still part of the Empire, whose support would be a massive plus for any one particular group?

Makes no sense.

The term All In isn't used in Texas holdem for no reason. You and your maple syrup-caked brethren will be ours.

They would be held in check only by a democratic government formed out of California, possibly called the New California Republic. The NCR would seize Hoover Dam and try to hold it. Both of them are susceptible to the threat posed by one wronged courier and his floating robot friend.

But will a secretive occupant of New Vegas be able to trigger the final confrontation and bring about a totally new order?

And I'd say the California airforce would make the leveling of Baltimore a priority target

Nah, the new Republic of Texas wouldn't be fighting to conquer California and New York, they'd be fighting to liberate them from the Chinese.

Incorrect. California and Texas would face problems with a Mexican insurgency based in both the LA and San Antonio areas demanding that Mexico re annex the southwest . With the Californian and Texas forces stretched and taking casualities from fighting the insurgency.

The Northeastern elitists pounce.

Mexico can't even fight their own cartels. They'd lay low and try not to be noticed during all the fighting.

Or Texas could just say to the Mexican citizenry "Join us in our fight and you get citizenship in our new country." Then there would be plenty enough people to wage war and guard the border. Again though, I don't think Mexico would get into it. They'd know that nukes would be procured at some point in the war and they'd be an easy target.

I think if it should happen TX will have an advantage because of the number armed civilians in the state, there's quite a lot of them as well as having a large proportion of them in the military- CA has that too but less of its ordinary citizens are armed. I know CA gangs are tough though but I dont know about Texan gangs.
