Hmm, I re-read and it makes perfect sense. You may not like or agree but them's the breaks.

Is it possible to #Hashtag threads? Let's say a topic transcends multiple categories, and we hashtag #Soapbox and #Religion, then the same thread appears in both.

Well, there's a built in function in the forum code where you select a pre-determined topic option when creating a new thread. I'm sure it could be modified to some degree to do such a thing but I don't have the time to code it myself. Maybe someone has already done such a thing with a phpbb mod. Send Galt some sexy pictures and maybe he'll look into it for you?

If they serve different purposes then rename them. Right now General Discussion is clearly not for "General Discussion". If you want a forum with links just call it the forum with links or a descriptive title that isn't completely at odds with it's apparent purpose. A new person coming here is going to look at general discussion and think this place is shit because half of the good threads are in the soapbox, or were simply never created because we all know no one is scrolling down to read the soapbox. I would post 2x as many threads if you didn't require us to use a link or to post our thoughts in some random non-descriptive forum that a new member would have no idea to check.

Them the breaks apparently, but it makes no sense and run counter to any sort of logic. Then again, this is PCF, so i guess I'm pointing out the obvious.

I don't want that shit in the GD. Plain and simple. I'm sorry you don't agree but I didn't ask if you agreed.

If people want to rant and rave about shit, do it in the Soapbox - thats exactly what its for. If you had ever modded at PCF at any point, you'd understand WHY the requirements are the way they are. Without the opinion, quote (and source/link because hey, we should point where we got it from), you end up with a bunch of shit posts that are basically just here, there, and everywhere. If people are into that, fine. At least we're giving people the option of doing that here whereas OGPCF would just lock it.

So we could just going back to doing that. Less work for me to just close threads when I don't see them meeting criteria.

I'm not saying we shouldn't have separate forums for those requiring links and those without. I'm saying the current system is illogical and counterintuitive. How would any new member know to check the soapbox? Why is the soapbox halfway down the forum list? If the soapbox is intended to be a general discussion without links, then it should be placed on the forum in a manner that indicates it is equivalent to the general discussion forum, but simply does not require links. The naming is also unconventional, which perhaps is why we have so many issues with people making threads in the wrong place.

The general discussion and soapbox forums should be right next to each other, at the top of the forum, and it should be clearly indicated than they are similar in purposes, except that one requires a link to start threads, and one does not. It would help new members out immensely and would encourage people to make more threads in the soapbox.

I'm not above suggestions. Suggestion about moving it next to GD, thats good. I don't mind doing that.

The forum rules for making a new post are laid out pretty clearly. Not to mention what the forum says for Soapbox: "Debate opinion topics of original content."

And also not to mention that anyone new gets a PM from me explaining the difference. Short of making people call me personally and me read the rules to them, there's no much more I can do to make things more clear.

Anyways, locking the thread because Philly isn't going to get his wish.
