The problem with a 'constituency' based electoral system is that it causes people to vote tactically rather than for the candidate they actually want to represent them. If I was an American I would probably want a Socialist candidate to represent me, but their chances of winning my respective state (for Presidential and Senate elections) and congressional district (for House of Representative elections) would be pretty much none, so I'd probably end up voting Democrat in all instances. Like ueberman says he doesn't vote in Texas because it's pointless. Although I mocked a coalition in my post above, I think this is more a thing of a 2 party coalition, if there were numerous parties working together they would probably be able to mediate each other, taking the proportional amount of credit and blame that was deserved.

There are coalitions ther way. In Europe they hae coalition governments. In America we have coalition political parties.

well the UK is in an unusual situation where there are two dominate parties and one more just big enough to be a nuisance. countries with smaller faction being forced to work together seems to be a much more equal relationship.

If one of the parties has a lot more seats then they should be dominant. The other party or parties have to understand they are the sidekicks of the coaliton, however, they can always reorganize and put a different party in charge so they have power.

So why don't they reorganize?
