a holey safety net makes the problems worse, since it is basically subsidizing low wage jobs. if we had no safety net, i do believe wages would rise because people would hold out as they wouldn't be able to live on simply the wage as it is. consequently, since it is subsidizing these jobs -- and you are required to be looking for a job to get the benefits and people will take anything to survive -- the only real way to address the problem is to increase minimum wage. this of course would lead to increased uses of automation, but i do not believe that would be a bad thing. it's something to bear in mind, and something UBI can help address. as for federal jobs programs, there really needs to be massive investment in infrastructure. the trump admin is looking into nationalizing the 5G network, and that may be well and good, but the entire communications network should be common carrier for internet and we need to be delivering fiber to the masses. obviously our road systems need to be updated, and mass transit in city centers need to be expanded, significantly, and in concert with nationwide solar roll outs in order to address climate change. these projects would create jobs short term but the infrastructure would also help create other jobs long term. the other major thing would be nationalization of healthcare, and free daycare. obviously this all costs a lot of money though and minority party that is soon to be the actual minority in government is going to bitch and moan so f**k hard even though they have been expanding deficits when they are in power. will any of this get done under a president biden? I think at least infrastructure investments will be expanded. i think minimum wage will be increased. the other stuff? i don't know. the most important things biden can do though has nothing to do with that, it has to do with repairing our broken institutions. uncapping the house is first step

lol no my friend I think you have confused yourself. You just served up a long list of what SHOULD happen, however none of that stuff has actually happened. Republicans will en mass go back to the same crap before, and everyone who is saying this is across the line now will fall back into line with the GOP for another tax cut. If COVID kills him thats about as quietly as it ends. Now we have 1/3 of the country who thinks the election was stolen, and will go on fighting about this lost cause for much much longer than you would imagine. Which members of the GOP are being criminally charged? To date, Trump is still in office with literally no consequence. Same with Cruz, and Hawley, and 99% of the people who were rioting. Don't be fooled by a few dozen high profile arrests, this was a f**k riot of THOUSANDS, the vast majority of whom will skip away with no consequences. There is no historic shift taking place - all thats happened is the republicans have done one step further and normalised what would have been insanity not that long ago. Remember when people took right wing terrorism seriously after one lone lunatic blew up a nondescript federal building in flyover country? That was the GOP in the 90s. Now mobs of thousands of them invade the US Capitol, during a joint session of congress, and walk off scott free.

All of this could have been avoided had the man died back in October. You are never right, you live in a fantasy world. Nothing will change, there will be no serious consequences and the GOP will continue to get more insane (almost impossible at this point when 40% of the party is in conspiracy theory land). You have completely missed the point, these people are in a cult there is no evidence that could ever be served up to change their mind. It's a sickness and many of these people shouldn't be near the levers of a motor vehicle, nevermind government. There is not going to be some shift in views or convincing anyone.
