Tax Reform Part 2?

Ok, here are some primers:

Basically, GOP (Paul Ryan, 'Ole Mitch, and Agent Orange) and weighing whether or not to push a vote on making the tax cuts for US families permanent. They seem to think the Dems will vote against it regardless and then they'll use that against the Dems in the midterms later this year. This is all for show of course because they don't even know if they can get the bill through the House (freedom caucus) but they think if they can get enough Dems to vote against it then it's a net positive for them.

My thoughts: The poll above shows how people don't even feel like they're seeing more money (52% of respondents don't think they are - moe of 3-5%). So....why don't the Dems double down, agree to making it permanent and possibly even larger for voters with the stipulation that companies have to pay a little bit more to offset the costs, and pass it so that the GOP members originally angry about the cost of the original omnibus bill can shove it?

And if that doesn't work? Just pass it anyways. GOP controls the government right now - this'll be seen more on them than the Dems. Plus the debt/deficit is a non-issue to them now anyways and Dems don't care all that much so...just vote yes? What's the downside to voting for this bill if it comes to the floor?

I don't understand the logic of the argument here.
