Vegas Shooting

Postby John Galt » Mon Oct 02, 2017 8:42 am

50 dead, 400+ wounded

man shot from 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay onto an outdoor concert across the street

They located the room he was in because of the smoke detectors

He fired for 10 minutes, very rapidly

and this is where we get to it

either he used a LMG that is illegal or he used a bumpfire stock which is legal. i have listened to several recordings of the incident from many different places and times. i think he used both, because he had 10 weapons found on him, and the rate of fire in some is consistent (automatic) and in others it modulates while firing (bumpfire)

there's literally no reason why anyone should own a bumpfire or automatic weapon as a private citizen, outside of fantastical belief that the endtimes are near and you're going to have to defend yourself against the agents of Agenda 21

Bumpfire is basically a loophole. Government has decided that since it doesn't actually change the mechanical action of the gun, it's not technically turning it into an automatic.

Which is, of course, utter bullshit in practice.

Apparently he's had no history with police before this. Lived in Mesquite Nevada. 64 years old. Motive is unknown - age is definitely strange here.

Truly a tragedy. The clips of footage from people on the scene are crazy. The gunfire sounds like something you'd hear in Iraq or Syria. The volleys of gunfire raining down from above echoed far - there are new reports that the police didn't kill him and that he had killed himself before they arrived.

The Donald just had a public briefing on the topic - it was boilerplate but it was actually a nice change from the past. You could easily tell he was staring right into the teleprompter the entire time.

Yeah, even from the perspective of a right wing nut, don't understand specifically what about that concert would have set him off? This was clearly planned well in advance.
Yeah, country music festival.

most mass shootings in this country stem from mental illness, but our fantasy obsessed culture enables this shit. i mean some guy shooting from the 32nd floor onto crowds? this is hollywood shit

and it's not like you could do anything to protect yourself in that case. you would need a sniper rifle to return fire, and who carries a sniper rifle with them. all yo ucould do is run for cover.

there's nothing a hotel could do to prevent a guy from bringing guns into their premise.

in fact the only thing that could have contributed to lessening this would possibly have been outlawing of bumpfire stocks. but even then i think he would have still taken out a lot of people -- and i'm wagering he had both bumpfire and full auto (which are already illegal). if it turns out it was bumpfire only, i think a GOP controlled government may pass gun control legislation. it will be modest, only surrounding bumpfire and maybe a few other things, but the video. he was firing for so long there's so much video. can't stand up against that

well it doesn't, and that's the correct call for the ATF to make. it has to specifically be made illegal by congress

my sister lives in vegas and is a country music fan. her husband was at the airport picking up his father and his sister. the airport is right near the luxor and mandalay bay, and they didn't let plane disembark for hours. my brother in law waited in a parking lot as busses full of people evacuating the area arrived

but i think, if my sister's sister in law had been in town a few days before so she had a baby sitter? last time she was there my sister and husband went to a george strait concert downtown

You're dreaming. They didn't pass shit after Little town. This will be no different. And if they do? The NRA and the base with savage them. Again, they've lost control of the people they've been pumping full of radical bullshit.
