Postby John Galt » Sun Jun 11, 2017 9:33 pm

only 23% of population voted, but of those that did 97% voted for statehood

apparently everyone who wanted not-statehood boycotted because they felt it was rigged. jokes on them right boys

Puerto Rico’s governor, Ricardo A. Rosselló of the pro-statehood New Progressive Party, said he planned to take the victory to Washington and press Congress to admit Puerto Rico to the union.“From today going forward, the federal government will no longer be able to ignore the voice of the majority of the American citizens in Puerto Rico,” he said in a brief televised speech after the voting results were announced.

Oh my sweet summer child.

i know they're going to not allow it, but it's going to be hilarious watching republicans come up with excuses why when it was in their platform, like every heartless bastard in the party has mentioned, at least in passing, that they support statehood and cheeto benito was for it on the campaign trail.

then again turtle man filibustered his own bill without skipping a beat so who the f**k knows

the previous vote was too ambiguous because firstly it asked if you wanted to keep the status quo or not, and secondly, if not, what would you like changed? a bit over half voted to not keep the status quo and like 60% said statehood

i think a new star on the flag under President Trump is appealing to him. he doesn't care about party. besides if republicans push it through it will be appealing to hispanics about the republican party -- a party that which they often share more values with anyway, being a bunch of catholics and against abortion and the like.

they can enact the 'tennessee plan' and declare themselves a state and force the subject in congress. several states did this, starting with Tennessee

but sure, think it won't go through. i think it will.

Lmao, zero f**k chance the republicans will shove 2 democratic senators and 5 house representatives into Congress, so that a tiny, heavily indebted Spanish speaking island can become a State.

They can do whatever they want, nothing has really changed. They already voted for statehood, no one cares.
