Healthcare Predictions

(CNN)Republican leadership's first effort to sell an Obamacare replacement plan has given rise to an unusual consensus in Washington. Officials on both sides of the aisle -- including disparate factions within parties -- and influential outside groups seem to be in agreement: the bill in its current form will never make it to the White House.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday nodded to the long road ahead.

"Our wonderful new Healthcare Bill is now out for review and negotiation," he tweeted, while also calling Obamacare "a complete and total disaster."

...

So, lots of infighting about Obamacare in the GOP. The conservatives want to separate repeal from replace, and they are largely opposed to this bill, which they've called Obamacare Lite.

This really is amazing to see. Do these people not understand what is going to happen to them electorally if they kick 20 million people off their insurance?

What are your thoughts? What is going to happen?

Impossible to predict the actions of irrational people, but IMO the GOP will fight internally for the next little while over their competing bills (both of which will be horrid). Then as midterms approach they'll panic and pass something to say they fulfilled their goal. Said something will mollify the base because it is something, but it will actually be disastrous policy and Americans will hurt as a result. Comeuppance in 2020.

History repeats itself, but worse.

The Dems also got rekt immediately after passage. Hopefully, we don't need to wait for 2020 to see some backlash.

Even many gop constituencies are clearly speaking against this abortion of a bill. Funny how quickly and epically Republicans managed to f**k this up.

But it's only 65 pages so I guess WINNING

Democrats are pretty dumb for not countering this mess by promoting Single Payer as their alternative fix. Yes, stopping this GOP plan should be the main priority, but Dems need to be offering an alternative other than "just keep the ACA". Single Payer is an actual solution and is popular. Of course, it has no chance under this government, but proposing it would be a smart move.

It would also be an excellent way to keep the progressives moving and involved. However, one has to realize that the DNC is pretty damned hostile towards their own members... they REALLY dislike the idea of pursuing actual left-wing policies, largely because it will interfere with sucking Wall Streets dick.

Yeah, it would be such an empty gesture that would go such a long way and they won't do it. They have no imperative to actually act on it because they control nothing. Would be great red meat for the base, don't know why they can't even allude to it.

Political incompetence. Remember who controls the party - the same people who elected Hillary Clinton.
