I'm of the opinion that if he continues to pursue diplomatic endeavors in this manner we will surely be economically trivialized as well as potentially engaged in open warfare. He is treating respected diplomatic norms as if they are mere business dealings and able to be leveraged without consequence.

A prolific GOP strategist, Frank Luntz, recently said he believes he'll now witness the downfall of the US within his lifetime and has stated in no uncertain terms that he is moving to New Zealand.

China's going to start a pivot towards European manufacturing now. If they dump boeing and go for Airbus it'll just be the start - it'll be a calculated move.

This China policy isnt a big deal honestly. Whats more concerning is that Trump has been doing things as of late that if Obama had done, the Republicans would of lost their shit.

I think it's quite clear Trump has accidentally stumbled into a great policy.

Why on earth should the One China Policy be off the negotiating table? Because China said so? Because they will throw a tantrum if it isn't? You guys are such pussies, China has no where near the leverage people pretend it does. When China says there can be no relationship without adherence to the one china policy, what they mean is that Trump has clearly touched a nerve and found one issue that the Chinese will absolutely be forced to bargain over. Welcome to RealPolitik. They cannot be publicly seen to be bargaining over this policy but they absolutely will make smaller concession to prevent this from becoming an issue. This is the foundation of their relationship with every nation on earth and if the US undermines it, there is a very real chance half our allies will do the same. What are they going to do? Cut off trade and diplomatic relations with half of the developed world, or make a few concessions to the US and open up their domestic markets?

Xi is not irrational and he understands two things...China cannot afford to have the One China Policy up for Debate, and any retaliatory measures they try to take against the US will ultimately be more painful than simply conceding on a few other issues. China gives no f**k about North Korea, they prop it up so they have a bargaining chip in situations like this. South China Sea is the same situation, I bet Xi is secretly stunned Obama even let them get away with this much. It would mean almost nothing for them to halt development on the spratley's and accept the status quo.

You also have to look at who will be harmed in the US in the event we start a trade war with China. The answer is Apple Shareholders, Boeing Shareholders, GE Shareholders, and every other company that pays little to no taxes and employs fewer and fewer Americans in the name of profit. Don't get things twisted, these companies have little to no loyalty to us and we should not allow our national policy to be dictated by their whims. God forbid these companies are forced to confront their immoral and unpatriotic decision to shift their supply chains and manufacturing capabilities to a totalitarian communist state.

The honest truth is if the Chinese picked a fight they would suffer significantly more than the US, and a good portion of the wealthy and educated class would try to get their money and children out of the country as fast as possible before Xi turns into Mao and makes them all suffer in order to stick it to America. No Americans would be fleeing to China, whereas every Chinese who bought property in Vancouver or had an anchor baby in California would be on the first flight out of the Mainland.
