The single biggest problem our country faces is the influence of large corporations and special interest groups over our politicians. This is because this single problem stems out to cause many, many others. Bernie Sanders is the only person who mentions this. I think the dems will look at him sort of like they did Obama. Someone who represents "real change" in their minds. Obama turned out to be a disappointment in this regard, but the hope that someone can come along and really make significant changes is still their and that's why I believe Sanders can upset Hillary. Even if Sanders sticks to his guns, without other like-minded people in congress, nothing will get done. It will be the same ol shit until our country collapses.

Bernie Sanders is completely ineffective as a candidate unless he is willing to do some very public, very illegal shit with regards to the election process.

All he's going to do is run a flashy rebellious campaign, and then give all his supporters to Hillary next year.

That's it.

i honestly don't know. everyone assumed it was hillary a year ago but i think everyone underestimated just how hated she is AND i don't think anyone expected someone like bernie sanders to be drawing the kind of crowds and popular support he is.

it's going to be interesting.

We have a similar situation in the UK with Jeremy Corbyn a surprise front runner for the leadership of the Labour party. If he wins, Labour will be further to the left than they have been for over 30 years.

speaking of UK elections, why haven't you guys gotten rid of first past the post?

A combination of factors. The two main parties don't want to loosen their grip on power, and public apathy/uncertainty about coalitions.

we had a referendum a few years ago about whether to replace FPTP with AV+, and voter turnout was pretty poor.

The idea that he was hired by someone or hired himself to discredit and to split up the Republican party gains traction.
But take note he supported McCain in 2008.

Er, there's nothing in that article that lends credence to that theory.

We need to accept that this is the kind of thing that appeals to the "base" of the GOP and stop excusing it by claiming it's a liberal plot.

Donald Trump is the best thing to happen in American politics since the Buchanan Brigade. Trump, all by himself, is shifting the Overton Window in the U.S. rightward like no other right wing figure has in at least the last 30 or 40 years. Who, before Trump, was seriously talking about immigration reform other than vague lipservice about maybe securing the border one day and pushing amnesty? Now that Trump has laid out serious and real immigration reform every candidate is forced to take a stand.

So it doesn't matter if Trump is trolling us or not, the effect he is having is real.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Link to the real and serious reform proposals he has laid out?

So far he's just spouting vague phrases tailored to appeal to mouthbreathers. He hasn't actually produced anything of any specificity or detail.
