Uh, no, the concept 12 years ago was brand new. Far more universities offer it now. This didn't happen last week, this was beginning in 1997.

Surely doesn't look like a bad major to me and I see some pretty big names in that list of the top 31 universities to graduate insurance majors. Ironically enough, mine is number 8. Not many people want to major in that because it's hard as hell. Back when I majored in it, I talked to people who had dropped out of nursing and majored in insurance and said this major is much harder, much more writing involved. For the last 2 years of my degree, I had to write a 5-10 page essay on something every single week, every day for a Mon-Wed-Fri class. That meant three 5-10 page essays per week. For obvious reasons it was well known that the "insurance victims" as we were affectionately known on campus wrote far far far more and had far more homework than anyone else on that campus. The nursing majors had more to remember, but they never had to write essays. When I started college I could type about 15wpm. Without taking a typing class, I graduated being able to type about 75wpm. I could type a 10 page single spaced essay (the requirement) in about 15 minutes, and make between a 94 and 97 on it. The reason not many people major in it is because you have to take the hardest classes in the business curriculum. Majoring in say Marketing or even Business Management was super easy. Those risk management classes were TOUGH. Oh yea, the dean of the college of business said less than 10% of people who major in insurance and risk management actually graduate in 4 years. Most take 5 and some take 6. I finished in 4 years flat.
