Reagan was a great 'leader'.. He knew how to make people feel better about themselves and great about the country.. And after Watergate, riots that were burning down cities, the oil embargo, Vietnam, the Iranian hostage mess, assassinations, the Cold War, etc. believe me we needed to 'feel better' about ourselves. He was kind of like Churchill. Churchill was a GREAT leader and great war PM, he knew what to say, and how to make the Brits stay together and feel good through a bad situation.. But once the war was over the British people tossed him out within a couple of months..

Reagan was a great leader, his policies? Not so great.

Agreed. But arguably you could say that the GOP decline began with him and his policies--and that of the country.

Can't disagree with that and you're right--lots of people loved him, it even spawned the term "Reagan Democrats." He certainly was a likeable guy.

But you're also right about 2008 too--I was astounded when I heard that because these guys were openly admitting they would rather burn the country down then work with The Enemy.

It would be like two employees under you tasked with creating a product and one openly admitting he's going to sabotage the other guy while not even creating one himself. You'd fire that guy. Yet we have a whole segment of the media/population who jumped right on board with it. It's all so very strange.

As much as I bitch about Obama, I would vote for the guy election after election after election. I won't vote republican unless they want to legalize marijuana, which they don't and won't, so Obama pretty much has made me a democratic voter for life. The economy may be shit but without him it would be much shittier, which doesn't help people entering the labor market like me. Obama gave me a HUGE handout on student loans and quite frankly I will never forget he did that and do feel some sort of allegiance to the democrats.

Ironically, I'm a huge supporter of Obama for economic reasons, despite my growing distaste for the democratic party due to social issues (I don't care about f**k micro-racism, 5th wave feminism, or all the other victim shit libs have latched onto). Go figure.

Naw. Its just that in the old soviet satellite states things are bad. Really bad. So Russia starts doing better the last few years and people jump up and go. Plus, Russia has negative population growth...so, lots of gaps for people from abroad to leap into.
