Political Crossfire Forums

You're on a forum called Political Crossfire, so I assume you enjoy talking about politics or enjoy being in the crossfire. Do you also have any political aspirations? To be President? Mayor? Ruler of a Third World country?

I don't have a link, and it's not really a debate topic, but it's politics, so I don't know which forum is the most appropriate. Feel free to move this to another forum if needed.

When I retire in 20 years or so, I probably will run for our local state house seat or senate seat. Our legislature only meets every other year for about 4 months so it'll be just enough to have fun with w/o turning into too much of a grind.

I want to be vice president. That seems like it'd be a great job. That said the most I think I can hope for is mayor of Golden, Colorado.

What little idealism I have left would not survive the first week of contact with the horribly corrupt and broken political system.

Maybe something no more debased than the local school board or perhaps working as City Engineer somewhere.

Its not the drama I have a problem with, its the corrupt string pulling from the shadows.

I can deal with backbiting soccer moms and suburban midlife power plays and so fourth. Thats just humanity. What pisses me off is a collection of extremely large and well monied non-public entities gaining the power to shape public policy in their favor, and a resulting political system that is effectively suborned to that influence rather than the interest of constituency.

And of course, the certain knowledge that I wouldn't be in office at all unless I too had been tainted by it.

I think on a state and local level folks can still do a lot of good. One guy helped change my home town from an ick "Valleyesqucalifornication" sub-development into one of the best places to live in the country because he was head of parks & rec. Same goes for state folks with a mission.

However it seems that on a federal level all folks are doing is dole out money, which can have its merits but greatly limits the scope of ones ability to change the world for the better.

Nope. Hate politics. But I wouldnt mind staying in the shadows and being the power behind the throne.
