I hate this one too.
It's going to be insane. At least Apple v Samsung was US vs a Korean company. Now it's US vs US. This shit is going to get real, real quick.
Apple may be the bigger more valuable company, but don't think for even a second that Google can't put up a damn tough fight against them and possibly take them down in the courts. The market cap isn't really relevant here. What's relevant is that both companies have money to take this to the end of the earth and back, and they will.

If Apple is the 800 lbs gorilla in the room, Google is the 600 lbs gorilla.
They both a giants. Don't underestimate Google just because Apple has more money and a bigger market cap.. What matters is both have plenty of money to hire a b'zillion lawyers and fight this out for a very long time, if need be.

It's true, swords have been joined, the way it looks now Apple certainly has the bigger warchest.
However, the thing with technology conglameroates these days is maintaining your brand and being perceived as 'hip' are essentially the same thing.
Thus, look at apple. What's there next move in terms of product and branding, a even faster Imac? Or maybe a new Ipad that's 4x bigger? Itable they can call it. With Steve Job ascent to Olympus, probably the main creative element of a brand that is pretty much 80% style 20% content. Well, last time he was absent from apple, fortunes were a mixed bag.
Google, likewise has been around now and fought off all comers for what in terms of a .com is several lifetimes. Now its moving into the technology and operating system market. As a whole, mixed bag. In terms of a product though, android is very scrappy indeed. I would argue also, it has a very, very strong brand indeed.
Yes apple is going to go on the attack, with chewbacca defences and patent 'trolling', no doubt. However, from a strategic position it can only really loose at this point. If its near market dominance at present is not a high water mark what is?
Not to mention, being incorporated it always has the Achilles heel of a sudden loss of confidence.
