I think it's a good idea. I would go a step further and make it law that government employees are subject to all the laws they pass. For example, insider trading is illegal, so it should be illegal for everyone. If a police officer is caught unjustly killing someone, they should be charged with murder and face the full penalties that go with it, and so on.

I think added sanctions may even be in order. After all there is the matter of a broken trust to resolve as well as the crime itself.

Well I'm not advocating the Nuremberg trials, if that's what you are thinking. I think there are much better justice models, such as restitution.

so for people that hate the idea, do you have any?
this is the only semi-practical way I can figure out on how to address the erosion of civil liberties.

We live in a society that uses all of it's institutions to manufacture consent and to marginalize dissent and therefore the population is literally conditioned to accept policies that aren't really in their best interests.
They don't agree from their true free will. If they understood the situation they wouldn't be so agreeable.
