in fact, there were quite a few edicts issued in regards to ARABS and other muslims being sold into slavery and taken to the east indies and whatnot. shit, the entire suwarian tradition stressed co-existence between muslims and all people, and he was an incredibly influential scholar.

Racism wasn't really ever a component of the Islamic practice of slavery. In those lands one slave may be white and another black and one king may have been black and another white.

Slave were simply captured enemies that were forced to work and there was no idea that they were subhuman because they could buy their freedom or even marry within the family of the person who "owned" them. If they accepted Islam they became part of the culture right then.

Western racism, on the other hand, is unique in that it states that other races are lesser beings who are rightfully exploited by whites. And here we are 400 years later still having a difficult time integrating blacks and whites.

The difference is the virulent nature of western racism, because of cultural ideals of racial superiority that justified the industrial harvesting of human beings for use as labor animals in an industrialized setting.
