Is there any evidence to back up the idea that the Hispanic population want any of this. If you allow in more low-skill immigration (which the bill includes) then the people who are most harmed by that will be existing workers in low-skilled jobs which is traditionally newish immigrant communities.

Why would they want that??

1. The GOP passing immigration reform won't help them in 2016 or ever. While it is an important issue to latinos, it still isn't solely why they don't vote for them. Latinos don't agree with their economic policies, either. Besides, the GOP is f**k either way. if immigration reform breaks down, it's their fault. if it passes, Obama did it.

2. The dems should be pushing for it even if it did hurt them in 2016. Putting party before country is wrong. That's what the GOP is exclusively doing right now. Do the right thing for the nation, not for your party. It shouldn't matter if it did help the GOP long term.

Just because the GOP are assholes doesn't mean the Democrats should too. At least, not always.

We're talking about real people being affected. The people here need to have their reform.

Besides, the best outcome for the Dems is for the GOP to kill the bill on their own, in the House.

I am not huge on amnesty, but will support it for a handful of reasons:

1) It makes those illegal immigrants that gain amnesty through it citizens. This is important because then they can get real jobs and pay real taxes for the social programs they use in this country. No more of them freeloading on American infrastructure.

2) It could be a passageway to actual immigration reform, which for me would mean making it easier to come into the US legally and gain citizenship if you want it. It would also include removal of the "born in the US makes you a citizen" clause of the 14th Amendment. IMO if one of your parents is already a US citizen or if both parents are legal immigrants, you're a US citizen at birth. If both of your parents are here illegally, you do not gain citizenship at birth.
