You know - after reading all this and thinking more about it, I've come to a different conclusion.

Send him to jail.

The mother has no business staying with him anyways. If he doesn't go to jail, she should leave him and find another father (if she's worried about it). No way I'd stay with a spouse found guilty of pedophilia. Especially if I have kids.

This isn't limited to child molestor fathers. I feel I should point this out for those decrying this as "medieval". If anything it's typically more common for this type of reduction to be applied to criminal mothers, ultimately from a patriarchal perspective of "women are always the better primary caregiver/caretaker, because vagina". Or feminist, depending on which version and degree of radicalism you suscribe to.
