Antifa has no goal other than to delay the occasional speech, and nothing they do changes any opinion that matters - not the Nazis, not their sympathizers, and not the people who are tempted by their rhetoric but remain unconvinced.
In fact, antifa is actively harming the resistance against the alt-right, largely by forcing the hand of those who prefer order over political correctness (which accurately describes about 85% or more of the population) and handing the alt-right a series of PR victories. Not only that, but they are behaving in a manner that is absolutely contrary to what deradicalization experts say is effective.
1. They haven't and won't achieve anything meaningful.
2. They are interfering and setting back countless social workers and outreach groups that rely upon peaceful dialogue to reach these people.
3. They provide boundless media and PR opportunities that otherwise would not exist.
4. They escalate the stakes and danger of political protest for both sides.
It is actually disturbs me to see a group of militant people so painfully bad at what they do.
It wouldnt hurt to keep a certain level of intellectual honesty by all parties in the good and bad. None of us can count on antifa/leftist or the white nationalists/rightwingers to maintain this necessity.
What is being missed by the majority of people who havent taken the field, is there is this growing segment of radical independents or centrists that is rising up that are rejecting fascists and communists. They were the people in the rally calling out the Nazi's like the Oath Keepers, people holding NO DALP signs, the libertarians, moderate liberals, classical liberals, citizen journalists, etc. etc. etc. Who in the aggregate vastly outnumbered the white nationalists at this last rally but get lumped in via proxy for political expediency.
Most people can agree that the white nationalists are shit bags, PCF is not a good place to poll the next, but most people can agree that antifa are equally shitty. I wont state that i have some magic solution, but I can grantee that a solution is impossible in an active state of violence, and those who reject dialog need to be cast aside. Regardless of your political leaning, its is abundantly clear that the leftist/communist side of this conflict reject dialog in many ways including its quick trigger on adhoms and making baseless declarative statements in order to throw cold water on a civil conversation.
The AltRight is still a very small political minority, but crush it on social media(s) with sensible arguments hovering around the ideas of self determination. The leftist have not always been known to throw out the babies with the bath water, but because they are in a perpetual state of mourning since Nov8th, this has become the only way they choose to operate. While everyone up to and including most of the AltRight can tolerate the existence of opposition, the same can not be said by the communist/leftists.... and they are getting worse, as we seen last Saturday.
I hope people turn back from doing exactly what the real enemy wants us to do.
