If youve actually traveled out of your M Night Shamaylan village you would have realized that yes, even in 3rd world countries, most financial districts are comparable to those in 1st world cities- there are malls, 1st class restaurants, shopping and excellent housing in places like Mumbai, Hong Kong and Manila just as there would be in NYC, Chicago, L.A. etc.

The f**k are you talking about? Massive US tariffs continued until at least the 1930s, and some of them continue to this day. The US had already undergone the industrial revolution at that point - and the tariffs were actually highest between 1820-1870, which is when the industrial revolution occurred. And, in fact, most nations did implement tariffs to protect immature industries.

Zollverein was the elimination of tariffs enacted by local and "provincial" governments, and the creation of a "national" customs union. Meaning that they were abolished within what would become a unified Germany. But guess what? All non-members were subjected to a general tariff. The proceeds were then redistributed to each member state according to population.
