You're saying it's only like that in the western part of the state?

maps contort texas' size and makes other states, like both of ours, look bigger. texas is nearly 900 miles, north to south; california is like 750. the place is massive. there's a lot of great stuff in texas, but, remarkably, none of it can be found in dallas, which is strange for a city of that size

Person who spent exactly one night in town. I know you don't like highways, but blame TXDOT, not Dallas. They're the scourge of the entire state.

dallas sent me a bill for $6.66 in tolls over a year after i was there. was so fitting. it was also the only highway i've ever been on that had literal trash strewn across the entire thing and people are just driving through it like it was water puddles but no it was diapers and they are flying everywhere all over the road and people are still going at speed

Well yeah but it's Dallas. Also, fun fact: Dallas was most likely named for Vice President George Dallas, who earlier in his career was the mayor of Philadelphia. Take that, NAB!

Most likely being the operative phrase. Some have attributed it to the founder, John Neely Bryan's friend, who was named, Joseph Dallas.

When you found out that it was not a certainty that your city was named for Philadelphia mayor, did you tilt your head (upon which sat a 10 gallon hat) and cry "YEEEEEEHAW!" while firing -- a pistol in each hand -- bullets wildly into the air?

I'm so sorry for your experience, people typically slam on the brakes, pull over, and pick up trash in busy traffic. I'm going to be at an event Thursday night the Mayor is supposedly attending, and I'll make sure I bend his ear on your account.

Didn't go that far west, but great song. Anyone recall how it came up as a connection to the final episode of Breaking Bad?

NAB wrote:As a longtime resident of Texas, I'm kicking myself for not travelling out to the far western end of my state for so long. I spent a week with my family out there based in Marfa (Austin's baby cousin and home to the movie Giant) and spent a lot of time down in the Big Bend region, Ft. Davis, Terlingua, Balmoreah, McDonald Observatory, Marathon, Alpine, etc. f**k amazing, and surprised Big Bend National Park doesn't get the pub it deserves (nearly on par with the Grand Canyon imho). I also secretly crossed into Mexico for a bit and didn't die.

All those westerns you've seen (or even portions of No Country for Old Men) are realized out there visually, just f**k cool. If any of you want get a kickass Texas vibe, skip the cities and go out to that part of the state, it's totally worth it. The best vacation I've taken with my family.

I'll try and post some pics later.
