EU Elections

Postby Kane » Thu May 29, 2014 1:18 am

Quote of the month for me:

Telegraph wrote:Europe's leaders are counting on recovery to rescue them, relying on the rest of the world to generate the necessary demand, but creating none itself. This is courting fate at a time when China is choking its credit boom, most of the Brics are in trouble and the US Federal Reserve is tightening.

How does everybody else here feel about the recent elections in the EU?

I think it:
1. corresponds with your thoughts.
2. shows once and for all that history is not, in fact, over.
3. shows that the economic crisis is deeper, bigger, longer than many would have us believe.

Prof O'Rourke said he has been waiting five years for Europe's leaders to forge the new instruments needed to make the failed experiment work, but it is by now obvious that Germany will not allow fiscal union or shared banking liabilities, and others will not accept a federal political Europe. It therefore pointless to protract the agony.
"The demise of the euro would be a major crisis, no doubt about it. We shouldn’t wish for it. But if a crisis is inevitable then it is best to get on with it, while centrists and Europhiles are still in charge. If the euro is eventually abandoned, my prediction is that historians 50 years from now will wonder how it ever came to be introduced in the first place," he said.

Very well put.

Big political changes in a time of economic crisis? :-o IMPOSSIBLE!

It's nothing to worry about. Irrelevant parties picking up seats in irrelevant bodies in irrelevant elections. How many council seats did UKIP win? What majority do the racists have in the European Parliament? This election is just some lads having a go at the political establishment to vent their frustration at the general ineptitude of the ruling political class.

Racism is awful.

I do occasionally have sympathy for anti-immigration policies, however. If immigrants from a certain country are largely homophobic, harsh-on-crime and socially conservative, I really, really don't want them coming to my country.

Emerald wrote:well theyre targeting predominantly east European immigration and Muslims...not all of whom are immigrants, theyre just an easy scapegoat and something to scare people with half a brain cell with. The party leader Mr. farage, stated on a radio interview that most Brits would have an issue with a Romanian family moving down the road, but didn't specify why. he had issues with being on the London underground and hearing people speak other languages! The shock and horror of that considering it's normally full of tourists who come down to London. but whats pathetic is this guy is married to a german woman, with kids who speak a foreign language. but apparently having german immigrants is different to East European ones...cause he says so.

Funnily enough, when they didn't do so well in London, their counsellor who was standing for local elections there, stated they knew they wouldn't get many votes there cause Londoners were more educated and cultured...i.e. have some brain cells and wont vote for a racist party with no real policies.

Yeah, I'm not opposed to people having different cultures, or religions, or languages, or skin colors. I don't care about that shit at all. I'm not the type of person who demands that all immigrants know English and act like WASPS. I just really don't want to allow bigots or extreme-religious folks into my country. I already have enough problems with my own countries bigots and religious extremists...

I am a huge fan of Marine Le Pen. I see her as a shining beacon of sanity and rationality in a world blind to political and economic realities of the world we live in.

I have not been this inspired by a politician in a long time. This type of political candidate would win my vote in a heartbeat if they were to run in the U.S.

Ok, but you are wrong. They will never have an ounce of political power, so it really isn't worrying, is it? It's sad maybe, but it's never a practical concern. silly brits. your empire is lost and you are worried about some bombastic drunk.

Are you a f**k retard? You realize Pen is a f**k socialist right? She's basically Kin jong f**k un. Opposes free trade, globalization, and competition. Supports every subsidy under the sun, and only seeks to expand the role of the french state (already the largest in the world after, you guessed it, cuba and north korea). f**k her immigration policies or father, the woman would drive france and europe into the f**k ground. You really should f**k know better bro.

I sensed a bit of facetiousness in his post....
