I don't think it would have been used. I think it would have been locked away somewhere and regarded as a magical (or holy) relic.
Now if a person was sent back in time with one, maybe. But more than likely they would have just been regarded as a witch should they have shown it to anyone.

I assumed it was magic and had the maps and apps and shit. I thought that was the premise.
Otherwise the calculator would be pretty cool.

Useless without internet
