The Most Terrifying Thought Experiment of All Time

Shit, son. That ain't a disturbing thought experiment. Want something REALLY scary?

Click this link and find yourself. Figure that it takes something around 5 minutes of time to type each post (3-4 minutes of reading other posts, 2-3 minutes of research, 1-2 minutes to type). Then, multiply that number times your number of posts.

Now, for the scary part. Take that total amount of time, and think about what ELSE you could have done that might actually benefit yourself/mankind.

Given that we have to sleep 8 hours, here are the following number of 16-hour-day-equivalents spent by some of us on here:

Eynon - 65 days
Com - 63 days
Ex - 62.5 days
Dharma - 51 days
Spider - 35.4 days
Prof - 28.8 days

Yeah, we're all over a month spent on here. Doesn't count PCFv1.0, PCFv1.2, or PP, either. Counting those, I'd imagine I'm nearer to 4-5 months.

Well it depends. The easy linear-time version is that in the future it comes into being, realizes you didn't help it come into being, and then wrecks you.

The alternate reality version is that we could all be in a simulation and how you choose to act affects reality. The AI or machine or whatever would have to simulate the universe to make the prediction to see what you would choose or something to that effect.

I think that of all the wacky theories out there, our existence being a computer simulation is one of the most promising.

It's actually a pretty interesting thought. Some very plausible scenarios are as follows:

1. When you die, the universe ceases to exit.
2. We're all in a computer simulation, and we're not really "alive"
3. Even are thoughts are simulated to be real, and we think that we are thinking, we aren't actually "conscious". And it may be that animals are conscious as well, just to a lesser degree.
4. The real "us" is already dead/dying and the brain is able to reconstruct reality by slowing down time and recreating a life that we may have or thought we could have lived.
5. Every thinking being is a multi-verse unto itself.

I'm not endorsing any of these, put I kinda like thinking about them.

Every thinking being is a multi-verse unto itself.

since "reality" is the way each individual mind constructs received sense data into a series of coherent ideas this is a good analogy.

Consider that matter itself is a potentiality until it interacts with a consciousness, it is the interaction between individual consciousness and matter that leads to the creation of each minds own version of reality. Every individual has a slightly different reality in a slightly different universe.

Reality is entirely experiential, and therefore subjective.
