The organization behind an effort to raise Maine’s minimum wage to $12 an hour has been advertising for new workers at a rate closer to $10 an hour.

An online ad posted Tuesday by the Maine People’s Alliance indicates new phone canvassers/organizers would be paid $429 every two weeks for working 21.25 hours a week. That works out to $10.09 an hour, considerably less than the $12 minimum wage the alliance is seeking by 2020. The discrepancy was first reported by the Washington Free Beacon, a Washington, D.C.-based conservative news and commentary website.

Mike Tipping, communications director for the people’s alliance, said the job posting’s $429 figure was the result of bad math. The original posting was replaced Thursday with a new listing advertising a wage of $510 biweekly, which is exactly $12 an hour.

The revised listing wasn’t posted until after the Free Beacon reported on the original, but Tipping said MPA employees always have been paid at least $12 an hour. Alliance job postings on Facebook and job websites going back to February advertise a starting rate of $480 a week for full-time positions.

not surprising, this is fairly common. minimum wage initiatives are almost always the lowest paying. for example, in washington state last month:

I-1491 (gun control) was paying $4.50/sig
I-1464 (lame attempt at campaign finance reform) was paying $4/sig
I-1501 (increase penalties for identity theft when targeting seniors) was paying $3/sig
I-1515 (some anti-transgender bathrooms law - ridiculously popular in eastern wa) was paying $2/sig

and I-1433, the minimum wage increase petition, was only paying $1/sig.

same in california a few months ago. at one point there was 8 petitions paying $5 or more per sig. the highest the minimum wage increase petition went was $3 and was only $1/sig most of the time.

whats especially amusing about your article is maine had a casino petition earlier this year paying $10/sig. now a group is trying to get it done for $10/hour? lol. hopefully they fail.

Foadi makes too much money per signature and pays no taxes to parlay his windfall into cheap under-age Asian kitty. He and all like him should be imprisoned in a Thailand prison to be anally raped then executed.

No disrespect to you my friend.

Back-up generator in Phoenix and a cabin two hours or so away at 7000 feet that is 30 degrees cooler in the day. Jimmyz death not imminent. Invite to chill when in town extended.

i never work az, too unstable. one of my competitors in campaign sabotage is trying to derail a bunch of the campaigns in AZ right now, one of them in a minimum wage initiative - so somewhat related to thread. some pretty funny shit.

Arizona judge tosses some petitions for minimum-wage increase

PHOENIX — A Maricopa County Superior Court judge on Thursday disqualified signatures gathered by a substantial number of paid circulators for a voter initiative raising the state’s minimum wage from $8.05 per hour to $12 an hour by 2020.

Judge Joshua Rogers was still considering other challenges to petition circulators after a full day of testimony. Many of the circulators were disqualified because they hadn’t registered with the state, had other problems with their filings or had felony convictions.

Opponents of the minimum wage initiative led by the Arizona Restaurant Association, were challenging about 70,000 signatures out of the nearly 240,000 considered acceptable by the Arizona Secretary of State.

all the circulators are getting subpoened and prolly aren't getting paid. truly masterful work.
