Great, now check for Detroit. You will see it take a quick nose dive. In the last decade they have went through one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.

$31,982

He can afford a car now though.

Yeah, he needed a handout. Why can't the hardest working man in America afford a car with his wages?

It's not a handout, it's a bonus for 10 years working hard. Maybe if you worked a little harder for a little longer you could get the same sort of bonus for your hard work and effort.

Of course, I'm more than happy to pretend it's a handout. God knows how much the IRS will take if they find out it's a bonus for 10 years as a stellar employee.

per capita income is a useless figure in my view. but it's particularly useless in a place like detroit where there are so many ppl who either don't work, or are underemployed.

median household income is useless for the same reason, we're talking about one guy. a black male who works full time year round. so we should only be taking into account black males who work full time year round when looking for a baseline. when we do this, we find that he is well below median income for his group.

you can go to the US census site and see for yourself, i already gave you the link, all you have to do is input detroit in the geographies tab. this isn't very complicated.

He moved up to the top 1% tax bracket for 2015. He's one of those nasty high wage earners.

$160k/ yr dosen't put you in the 1%

Either way I'm glad this guy got some money but it is naive to think people are necessarily rewarded for hard work in this economy. Of course hard work helps but millions of people work hard their entire lives and die completely destitute. Other people hardly work at all and contribute very little and end up billionaires.
