Exploited has scientifically proven that not only is ADHD real but it's actually underdiagnosed. Society would be damn near utopian if everyone had adderall.

TIL that mental disorders don't exist because everyone can experience some of the symptoms.

OCD doesn't exist because people wash their hands and double-check that they locked the door.

Depression doesn't exist because everyone feels down from time to time.

"But it is a matter of degree and duration you say? Nonsense, you are just feeding your kid drugs because your capitalist overlords and their scientific minions profit."

face: my anxiety is caused by my diet and my lack of 'getting over it'.

if only i got over it and stopped worrying, i'd be fixed. it's so simple.

it's a chemical imbalance. i've had GAD and acute anxiety since i was 4. if doing stuff helped i'd be cured.

Story time: one of my public school principals didn't believe that ADHD existed, so he refused to allow any sort of differential treatment. So my mom, being a vicious and determined animal when someone messes with her kids, brought the supervisor of that sub-district, a child psychologist and the family doctor to a meeting. I remember sitting in on it and just relishing the brutal ass-kicking that man had unleashed on himself.

Needless to say, small changes that made a huge difference for me were implemented.

I guess this and other experiences like it are why I'm so very annoyed by the skepticism shown towards a pretty well-established disorder. Just go read the literature. The second thing that annoys me is the refusal to consider the moderate position. Of course Ritalin and whatnot is over-prescribed. Our education system is also terrible. But it shouldn't be taken out on those few who do have a legitimate disorder and benefit greatly from the medication.

the interesting thing to consider here is that shyness, anxiety, and dynamism are beneficial survival traits not disorders.

Our environment is different that it was when these traits emerged and nearly everyone has them to some degree or another.


Humans used to live and die with a group of brothers and sisters tracking prey and evading predators, now we sit in a box all day surrounded by a lot of strangers so the characteristics that used to be helpful now cause neurosis.

f**k sitting a box all day. There's nothing wrong with you or comrade, you're just not doing what you should be doing, which is being an awesome bro and surviving an untamed wilderness. The awesome bro part is there, but the untamed wilderness is gone, so sometimes things we do go wrong. We're being domesticated.
