Isn't that what the Communists promised before it became Communism as we know it?
Sigmund Freud defined four parts of a psyche; the id, the ego, the superego and the stratego. The Stratego being the highest form of morality and scientific thinking.
If guns are not outlawed, the in-laws will have guns.

Well, all states seek to shape society. I would say shaping society by creating a society that is free from economic domination and has minimal state control over the individual is preferable to a state that features a lot of social controls and allows economic subjugation of one class by another.
