The ruling elite in ancient Egypt were probably among the first humans to achieve a sedentary lifestyle. Not too surprising really.

Read this Nat Geo article a few years back where they looked at the health-condition of a "middle class" Egyptian mummy. They were messed up; tiny, lots of parasites, crap diet. Pretty unhealthy folks overall, but most of their caloric intake was made up of bread and beer.

I would have much rather have been a Scythian...chances of a violent death increase exponentially, but I'm taller, eat better, go on more adventures, and have a horsey side-kick.

Other than the dormice I think eating as a Roman noble would be very nice indeed though Id skip the garum as well.

Harden arteries was probably just a minor inconvenience compared to getting your heart taken out and put in a jar.

It was probably pretty stressfull trying to keep the peasentry in line. I would say just ask today's leaders, but we don't have any.

I was going to say...at 4,00 years old I'm not surprised those mummies have heart disease.
