SpaceX Sticks the Landing!

SpaceX Sticks the Landing!

Postby Spider » Mon Dec 21, 2015 7:58 pm

So f**k amazing. SpaceX successfully launched and landed, and delivered all 11 satellites for their customer.

It actually f**k happened. We've got about half a dozen people over, we were all on our feet cheering in the living room watching the live stream. This must be what it feels like when your sports team wins the superbowl or whatever. Super pumped.

Hell yes. Could not believe the sight of seeing that booster standing there upright on the landing pad after the engine was shut down. What a night.

Also, this is why the Blue Origin landing isn't remotely comparable:

The whole broadcast was really terrific. Recommend watching it all.

Edit: Actual coverage starts at about 9:40.

Long exposure of launch, reentry, and landing burns:

That was amazing. I barely remember the last few Apollo missions (in that I didn't entirely understand what they were doing or why it was so cool), but I do vividly remember one of them when a group of adults at the after school care place I went to was watching it on TV and they were all excited. I also remember getting really excited for the first space shuttle launch. What they just did IMO ranks up there.

Space is going to be a plaything of the mega wealthy, like the Concorde was going to change air travel. One is already a museum piece. But way cool anyway.

I think I played a brief demo of it? It strikes me as something that's pretty deep, and can be a pretty big time sink. I'm not so much of a sandbox gamer. I like plot driven stuff, mostly.

Most of us will be dead in 40-50 years or so, we need to hurry up with space exploration and technology. This has been awesome for sure.
