It seems pretty obvious when you look at their goal of Win10. They are unifying the entire experience from mobile to desktop to the Xbox. Literally, all apps are available on all devices. Seems like they could of used a different name than a number, but its not just a step up from 8, its a whole new generation of computing for windows. It seems to me they are repolishing all of their products under the 10 umbrella. I would of called it something else, but the number 9 isn't complete, 10 seems to be more fitting. Anyways, dumb but over time nobody will really talk about the name alot.

As far as I can tell its an update on the Win8 platform. Its not even fundamentally new code.
I think integrating various devices is great...but aside from the Xbox MS kinda sucks at selling devices. PC is where they dominate...and it seems like the PC platform is being backseated for devices that are sold only in the imaginations of MS's board members.
Doesn't matter to me, as I mostly detest the various apps on offer. Being able to run them windowed is going to make me about 500% more likely to use them, though.
From watching the demos a minute ago, 10 is looking pretty tolerable.

well the issue is third part application with legacy code (which i totally believe is the real cause, because it can be a headache), which in turn was a direct result of microsoft's terrible naming scheme of jumping from numbers to years to arbitrary concepts back to the same numbers, forgetting that years are also numbers...

Three attempts at installing the Win10 preview so far. Crashes about 3/4 of the way through. Hard lockup.
Going to re-download the ISO tonight, see if that helps. So far its fail.
