the heat death of the sun will happen before you explore everything if you explore one new star every second

The word excessive springs to mind.

shhhutitup u

yes, it's excessive

apparently the lead designer is a hippie and currently you can't kill the animals you find but apparently they will put it in but he'll be very sad about it

it's a game of constant exploration. i agree with spider in that it'll come to a point of "now what?" but on the other hand, just getting to go explore things like that sounds fun

Looks hilarious. Something in a similar vein that's got amazing multiplayer:

that's a partially taxpayer funded video game. well, not our tax dollars, but eu tax dollars. but i was amazed to hear that tax dollars, somewhere, are going to pay for video games.

factorio, a lovely game that will go to steam probably next year, has some devs from prague that took issue with it. namely, their tax dollars are going to fund some AAA game http://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-101 i thought it was interesting to find some bohemians taking a libertarian stance, made me smile

currently my router is on my second floor, and under a desk. it's a wireless n router, and works fine for netflix and chill, but i'm thinking it wouldn't be able to send stuff through the floor to the steamLink like i want it to. steam link comes out next month, and i think it would be fun to see fallout being gloriously rendered on my computer upstairs and played on my 4k tv downstairs with the new steam controller which comes out the same day as fallout

it would be a large pain to wire cat5 cables, although it could be done from the attic. doing it would end with me wiring cat 5 cables over to where the router currently is as well, and moving the router to my laundry room, which is on my second floor, so i'd be putting wires everywhere. while im at it i might end up wiring each bedroom for good measure, plus a couple cables down to my living room. wondering about the (party) wall where i need to go down to the first floor, but i suppose it could be done, it'll just be a bitch.

alternatively, there's wireless AC. does anyone have wireless ac? if you transverse 10 feet vertically and 15 feet horizontally through a floor what kind of data transfer can you get with it? wireless ac isn't exactly cheap, but the cat 5 solution isn't exactly easy. steam "strongly recommends" a wired network, and reviews i've read about it has spoken of occasional lag with wireless and i'm wondering if i can deal with that if it means i can do without crawling around in my attic and fishing cables

I'm a fan of just stringing copper, personally. Earlier this summed I trenched about 80 feet for cat6 (in PVC conduit) to connect my shop to the house...as I just didn't want to dick around with directional antennas and repeaters and such. Copper just wins. Wireless is going to get there...but when you need really clean reliable through-rates like for the 4K streaming your talking about...I'm on the fence...but let us know how the wireless solution works out.

As for the tax-funded games...I'm no more concerned about it than funding any other creative medium. The French government, for example, pays actors extremely well to stay and work in France, rather than absconding to Hollywood. All sorts go government foundations for the arts, etc. And I do view games, at least games of the Witcher's level of quality, as an art form just as much as film. And the Witcher really is loaded with Polish folklore and mythology...its actually been a pretty big cultural export for a country that has had very little of that sort of thing.
